A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or "houses" to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, it lets the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season.
Focussed not just on design talent from Victoria but the whole of Australia, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) presents a massive program complete with official catwalks, after parties, and on-calendar events. One of two Melbourne fashion weeks, the event brings the best of Spring / Summer fashion to the city.
Ruby Rose and Melbourne model Lucy McIntosh are both the ambassador's and face of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
Ruby and Lucy will play two very distinct roles during MSFW with Ruby the attaché for Melbourne’s fashion, culture and the event, and Lucy the lead fashion model opening and closing the Designer Series runway shows.
"Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is a significant fashion event and an integral part of Melbourne's culture, and this year we are lucky to have two funky and sophisticated Melbourne girls fronting the event," Cr Doyle swooned. Cr Doyle took a firm hands-on approach to reveal the "style icon" and TV presenter as the personality behind the event, while the "face" of fashion week, Lucy McIntosh, looked on at the official launch.
RubyRose, who wore a laser-cut perspex dress made by RMIT fashion designer Jack Loder, said she would DJ at many of the after-party shows during the August 30-September 5 fashion week. She said she was there to support up-and-coming Melbourne designers.
"Ruby is a Melbourne girl and she epitomises Melbourne style"
